Rich has dedicated his life to family, to his teaching and military careers, and to public service. His abilities to lis-ten and learn, to influence individuals, guide small teams and lead large organizations make him uniquely qualified to serve as Southbury’s First Selectman.
Rich worked in Stamford, CT for 38 years as a public school Media Specialist, seven years at the high school level and thirty-one years at the elementary school level. He served in the National Guard for 22 years in the Field Artillery unit in Norwalk, CT and graduated from Officer Candidate School.
After retiring from the Guard, Rich became involved in community life. While living in Sandy Hook, he served on Newtown’s Parks and Recreation Commission and became Vice-Chair of Newtown’s Democratic Town Committee.
After moving to Southbury, Rich served on the Heritage Village Long Range Planning Commit-tee and the Human Resources Committee. Currently, he is Secretary of the Southbury Democratic Town Committee and President of the Heritage Village Democratic Club (HVDC). Under his leadership, HVDC enrollment has greatly increased and the Village community has become more cohesive and involved in local government.
Rich holds a BA in English with a minor in Education from SUNY at Stony Brook and a Masters of Library Science from SUNY Buffalo. He and his wife of 47 years, Susan, are the parents of two children and grandparents of five.
